    Description

Very rare original Boyce Moto-Meter radiator temperature gauge for an Earl car. Harrison Boyce patented this simple gauge in 1913 and teamed with George Townsend and his Moto Meter company in New York. Millions were produced by the late 1920s when in-car temperature gauges took over. The Earl was built from 1921 to 1923 by Earl Motors, Inc. in Jackson, MI and only about 2000 were produced. I do not know exact year, model, or application for this example. This Moto Meter is the "Universal Model", with a nickel plated body and bezels, the body of which is 3" wide by 3 1/2" high by 7/8" thick. Total height with the in-cap sensor is 5 1/8". It has thick beveled glass lenses front and rear and the Earl Motors Inc. logo plate is visible at the front. Good to very good used cosmetic condition, the logo plate and back plate are very nice with some minor wear. The body has no cracks, corrosion, or damage but the plating shows some wear. The beveled glass lenses are nice with a few minor nicks and scratches, the front lens is a bit loose. The bezel trim plates are good with shiny plating and all screws present but do have some small dings and scratches. There is no red liquid in the glass thermometer. NOTE: WE DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WORKS OR NOT AND DO NOT WARRANTY OPERATING CONDITION. This is a very attractive and rare piece with genuine patina and would be a great addition to your collection or for use on an antique car. U.S. buyers will pay .30 Priority shipping, International shipping cost will vary based on location.
