    Description

This Butternut mantel is a square style face that is 3 11/16 inches thick, 6 7/8 inches wide and 60 inches long.  Mantel has medium brown color on face that shows variable grain and knots.  Medium brown color on top and bottom with knots, splits, wormy character, and bark seams.
The 3 pictures show both sides and the face of the exact mantel being offered. The top and bottom will be sanded to 80 grit before shipping. This is a solid wood mantel, not a hollow box built out of thin pieces put together. No mounting hardware is included because every installation situation is different. We do not stain or finish the mantel. We can cut the mantel shorter if needed for no additional charge.
Colgate Wood Products offers kiln dried mantels in a variety of species, styles, and sizes.

Our mantels are designed to show the character of the logs from which they were sawed. The square faced mantels will be a consistent width, but other styles may show changes in width to follow the shape of the log. There could also be knots or knobs, worm tracks or holes, machine scars or saw marks; all as shown in the description and pictures.
The reason we emphasize “kiln dried” is that you want your mantel to stay stable after installation. Sometimes when kiln drying a solid piece that is thicker than 2”, there will be some cracks and splits that may appear. This is normal, and can add to the rustic character of the piece. After kiln drying and installation there will be minimal movement in the mantel unless there is a dramatic change in the moisture content of the environment the mantel is installed in.
