    Description

1870 G Gold Dollar, Judd-1023, Pollock-1158, R.7, PR62 Red and Brown PCGS. Ex: Simpson. Regular dies trial issue struck from the regular 1870 gold dollar dies. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Off-metal strikes of the 1870 gold dollar exist in very small populations: four or five in copper, two or three in aluminum, and a unique example in nickel. This copper rarity features golden-brown and reddish-orange surfaces with iridescent accents throughout. Thin pinscratches occur in the right obverse field and below the bust. An impressive, fully struck proof and apparently the first example offered in any grade since 2013.
